VICDA
Volunteer International Community Development Africa (VICDA)is a Kenyan NGO founded in 2004 by Irene Wairimu Ngatia. The organisation was formed to support impoverished Kenyans from donors, sponsors and volunteers in development projects such as construction of public schools in partnership with the Kenya government, education sponsorship, Agri-business, Water & sanitation and community empowerment program.

Synopsis
In 2004, Irene Wairimu Ngatia founded VICDA to rescue needy Kenyan especially children in order to better there lives and brighten their future. Soon after, the organisation has expanded and gained an excellent reputation in Kenya due to its volunteer efforts and increased involvement in community work.
With the assistance of generous donors and selfless volunteers, VICDA has focused its efforts primarily on the Construction of the public primary and secondary schools,Agribusiness, drilling of borehole and HIV/AIDS program.
As a reaction to the political violence in Kenya that displaced more than 650,000 Kenyans in 2007/8, VICDA added community projects for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s), including feeding programs and food distributions, construction of homes, classrooms, and medical centers, and microfinance programs to help them rebuild their lives.
About Our Founder
Irene NgatiaThe founder of VICDA is Irene Wairimu Ngatia, who plays the official role of secretary and CEO in the organization. Irene is originally from Central Kenya but currently lives and works in Nairobi.
Before Founding VICDA in 2004, Irene was initially employed for three years after which she started Culture Exchange program with just Ksh 40. At the time, she resided at Kenyatta Hospital Residences with her sister. It is while working with voluteers at her company that her interest to help those in need grew – informing her to start VICDA.
Since founding VICDA in 2004, Irene has been committed to assisting needy Kenyans by placing international volunteers and developing community-based projects.
